THE BIGEST LOSER RANCH

I DID IT!

I am so proud of my daughter and myself! We finished the run...I actually did some running too. I would say I did about 6 or 7- 3 minutes sprints through out and fast walked the rest. My time was under an hour for the 3.5 miles and that is good for me. My daughter Pam wasn't far behind and I am so proud of her! This was her first experience where as I had 3 weeks at the ranch. I would love it if we could do this again in a week or two! She'll kill me but I'm gonna talk her into it.
I realize more every day what the ranch did for me. I have learned lessons that I can apply to many situations. The biggest one is to look at hard times like climbing a mountain. Dig your feet in and keep going until you reach a good solid place to rest, turn and look at how far you've come, pat yourself on the back for such an accomplishment, then just plow yourself to the top because you can do it!

Santa's Run

Hi to everyone! I have been home all most 3 weeks now. My ankles/Achilles appear to have healed or at least settled down. The diet is a challenge but I am finding if I keep up with a good exercise routine I am still loosing weight. I have lost 5IBS so far since coming home! Today my daughter, myself and my Broker are going on a 3.5 mile (5K) run to benefit the fuel bank in Glastonbury. I am so excited! This is something I would never have done if not for my experience at the ranch.
Thank You to THE BIGGEST LOSER!

Coming Home

I decided to come home a week early. With my feet problems it is evident I am not going to loose the kind of weight I expected. I have gained  alot of strength and endurance that will carry me to better fitness when I come home. I have learned alot about diet as well. I do belive however that the diet here is way to carb laden for me. Even though it was only 1200 calories a day we had very little real meat, mostly beans, tofu, rice, fruit, taco's and wraps etc. I could do well with a 4 OZ chicken breast, some asparagus and a small freen salad.
I will finish out the week since the steroids will take a few days to do their job and I dont want to hobble through the airport in Vegas as it is very big. In the meantime I can continue working on upper body strength and some cardio on the nustep machine (pretty much non weight bearing). We also have stretch and toning classes that I can benefit from. I would say pool classes too but it got really cold and windy this week so I am skipping pool for a couple days.
I will be home at 11pm Monday night. I have to leave her by Sunday am, so my roomate has 2 free nights at the Monte Carlo in Vegas and I will stay over alone on Sunday night. I am broke so not much chance of loosing my shirt in Vegas!
See you soon.do a final weigh in saturday morn.

Decision Time

OK...I am back from the urgent care clinic. The diagnosis is Inflamatory Arthritis. He put me on steroids and said I can return to activities when joint pain subsides.
Not sure if I will stay or go home.

Urgent Care

OK...I feel like a Loser...but not THE BIGGEST LOSER! Today I can barely walk.I have been battling this for over a week now and today is the worst even with rest over the weekend. I need to make a decision weather to stay or go home. I am wasting allot of money by not being able to get everything out of the program it is designed to do. I weighed in yesterday and only lost 2 lbs this week for a total of 7 in two weeks. I feel like I am letting everyone down who is rooting for me.
They are taking me to Urgent Care in town in 30 minutes to see if I can find out whats really going wrong. I will let you know when I get back.

Update

I am getting leaner. Only weighed in once last Sunday lost 5IBS. Will weigh in tomorrow.

30 IBS isn't going to be realistic. I hope for 20.

I have injured both of my Achilles on the hikes the first week so I am no longer going on them nor can I use the treadmill.

I hope that doesn't stop my weight loss. The food sucks but I am to busy to really notice. Allot of Tofu!

I am still working out in 5 classes 45 minutes long each at least 3 of which are strong cardio.

I can get up to level 11 on the bike during class but usually hold at about level 5 and a speed of 85-90 for the 45 minutes. Plus I do an hour and half of gym and cardio on my own while everyone is on the Hike. We have water classes once a day which are hard but allot of fun. I am getting a nice tan from being in the pool so much.

The sky is always blue and the sun is always shining!

Day 8

What a good day! I had a great hike today and found that I am standing taller and moving quickly right up the inclines with relative ease! I am starting to feel like I can do this.
We had Garlic shrimp for supper tonight, YUMMY!
I have made many new friends. It was sad to see people go home on Sunday. You can't imagine the bond that form with people on your team that help and encourage you to get through things. I am on Blue team this week with many new people.
Well I am off to tend to my blister and hit the pillow, 5:30 am comes quickly.

Feel the Pain

Just wanted to share, lol! Meet my gigantic painful blister...

Weigh-in Sunday

OK, so I'm a little bummed today. I weighed in this morning and I only lost 5 LBS.  I guess my expectations were a little high. I would have thought 1200 calories a day and 7 hours of HARD exercise a day would produce more than 5 LBS.
Anyway today is a day of rest but with only 5 LBS lostI hit the gym for 1 1/2 hours and rode a bike down the street for a couple miles (I know huh?  rode a bike for the ice.first time in 20 years). Then I swam laps in the pool for 1/2 hour an into the hot tub! Ahhhhhh. I have 2 new blisters and a hot spot on my right heel so the hot tub felt nice.
Off to dinner soon where we all have to take take the microphone and introduce ourselves to the new arrivals and say a little something about our week, ugh.
Thats it for now.

Day 5

OMG I made it through 1 week! I feel such a sense of accomplishment just having made it though. I still have a half day tomorrow but I stuck it out. I think you have to master the voice in your head that keeps saying this is too hard I cant do this.
We played basketball in our pool class today...it was pretty intense, there are allot of competitive people here both men and women.
Saturday afternoon and Sunday are our own I look forward to the down time.
Here are some pictures of today's hike. We got to see Indian writings on rocks.

Day 4

Day 4....how am I going to make it to Day 28! classes are getting harder, hikes are getting harder and I have a huge blister on my foot that hurts every time I step on it! I am trying hard not to whine but it's tough. Everyone is very supportive but it's still hard. We don't get weighed and measured again until the last day but if you want to just weigh in you can. I signed up to weigh in on Sunday at 8:05 am. I am afraid my expectations are too high. I am expecting extreme results because this program is extreme. I will be disappointed with less than 7lbs.
Here are some pictures of today's hike, it it called the 3rd Ravine and was the hardest so far.

Day 3

OK...I am still alive. I have been so busy I haven't had time to write. We have barely 15 minutes between activities and "If your on time your late"! 1 hike 2 hours and 30 minutes long then 5 workout classes each 45 minutes long, and they're hard! Your on from the minute you start and they wont let you slow down, they're on you to go faster and go stronger every minute. The trainers walk around with a headset microphone on so it's loud and in your face. The food is OK...some meals are pretty good and some I just choke down Honestly there isn't allot of time to really care.
I am reaching some milestones with my abilities...but for the most part my legs turn to Jelly, 3 minutes in!
Here are a few pictures of Wednesday's hike.

Day 2

6:00 AM Hardcore
7:00AM Breakfast
8:00 AM Hike 4 Mile sandy and rocky/ledge terrain. Had to climb much of it on my hands and knnes because it was soooo steep. I didn't cry but came close to it a couple of times. I was wondering if they could have a helicopter meet me when I got to the top because once you get there you still have to COME DOWN!
I had a great guide who stayed with me and helped me get through it. His name is Tom and I am so thankful for him.
11:15 Stretch (Felt sooo good)
12:15 Lunch
1:00  PM Calorie Challenge
1:30 Lecture
2:30 Total Toning (Killer)
3:30 Deep Water Suspention (Hard but lower inpact because of the pool)
4:30 Cardio Intervals....never in my life thought I could do something like this! Start on a cardio machine at a pace that challenges you and work for a period of time then you increase speed for 1 minute and then increase again for 1 minute and then increase again...you do this 8 times and then decrese in the same way...after you return to the beinning pace you in crease that by 1 and the you increase to your max again for 2 minutes and so on...My heart rate stayed at about 160 and I slipped on the machine and started to go flying! I was able to recover without hitting the ground but this brought the trainer to my side which meant I couldn't quit! She pushed me and pushed me like Jillian from the Biggest Loser. Guess what? I DID IT!

I am always wanting to quit but I look and see others making it and I push myself more. I am exausted and I have a blister on my heel but I am going to give it my all.

Day 1

I am skipping a lecture this evening so I have time to rest my blistered foot and catch up on things like writing on my blog. Where do I start? THERE KILLING ME! lol.

Seriously this is a incredible challenge. I am working muscles I never knew I had, pushing myself beyond limits I never would have belived.

I will give you a rundown of what my schedule has been for these 2 days.
6:00 AM Yogalates
7:oo AM Breakfast
8:00 AM Hike 6 miles into the mountains, rocky terrain. I only did 4 miles. I couldn't keep up so the guide took me down an alternate trail. It was still exhausting an quite a challenge. Did I mention it was 4 MILES!
11:15 Total Body H20 (pool exercize with dumbells!)
12:25 Lunch
1:15 Lecture
2:30 H20 intervals (pool class interval training, a real work out)!
3:30 Circuit Training
4:30 Core Training
5:15 Dinner
6:15 Lecture
7:30 IN BED!

The Last Day of My Old Life!

I am leaving in less than 14 hours and I cant stop the butterflies in my stomach! I am trying to focus on the good that will come of this journey but my nerves are getting the best of me!
I have been packed for ever and am now about to dump my suitcase and start over! I was supposed to eliminate caffeine and alcohol from my diet a week in advance yet here I sit with coffee in hand as I blog! (Not to mention I had 2 beers last night!)
But that's OK, because that's my old life...the one that got me out of shape and overweight. Tomorrows starts my new life...the one where I make positive choices for myself...the one where I excel in everything I do and make happen, everything that I want.
Thanks for following along.

9 Days!

I am really out of my mind! I leave for biggest Loser at 4:30 AM on the 24th. I have been moving for the past 10 days and the big move date is yet to come on Tuesday the 19th. My daughter is still blind from her surgery last week and anything else that can go wrong is! I feel a little selfish.

23 DAYS!

OK...I am getting nervous. I am going to be away from my life for 4 weeks! I am a control freak and can't fathom how life for my family will go on without me! This will be the hardest challenge for me just to focus on me and shut out the worries about home.

7 Weeks To Go!

I can't believe it's finally getting close. I am actually getting quite nervous! I am packed (have been for months lol!). Today starts day 1 of my 1200 calorie diet. I have gained 10-15 pounds (lost count) since signing up to go to the ranch! I am counting my calories by entering what I eat online at Fitday.com
I didn't realize that I use a half cup of creamer in my coffee! 12 grams of fat! Tomorrow I will join Cardio Express. Hopefully I will loose the weight I have gained recently so I can really loose the weight I want when I go to the ranch.
I'll keep you posted.

Countdown 20 weeks to go! lol!

OK...whats up with this? I have gained 5 pounds since deciding to go to the ranch! I need to get motivated. Anyone have a creative idea how to get back on track? I am not happy the way I look in a bathing suit but some sort of water exercise would be fun. Wonder if they have water aerobics somewhere?

Flying High

Believe it or not I booked my flight this week! Orbitz is great, they have a price protection plan and if anyone books the same flight for less between now and take off they send me a check for the difference! Total round trip with trip insurance and tax was $293. I dont think I could have beat that. With my flight booked it feels a little more real somehow.

Gearing Up

I know it is a little early to start buying gear for my adventure but I want to start researching the best footwear for hiking and fitness center work outs Kick boxing, areobics, treadmill etc. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to respond.

Count Down: 31 weeks to go!

OK, I am a little OCD! I would like to invite you to follow my journey to the Biggest Loser Fitness ranch scheduled for October 2010. They are booked so far in advance but I am told that it is worth the wait! I will spend 4 weeks at the ranch in Utah. I have read that I will hike at least 2 miles a day, attend numerous fitness and nutrition classes and consume 1200 calories a day! I am really excited about making a change in my life. I am doing this to lose weight but more than that to make a change in my fitness level and health. I am also hoping to have an epiphany and discover the meaning of life. (lol)
